wars, one in iraq and one in afghanistan and keep in mind, this, of course, was post-9/11. nothing, though, compares to the bush tax cuts have had on the federal budget. how does this compare to barack obama? well, we're looking at projected spending here from 2009 all the way to 2017. there is president obama's health care package, obama care, $152 billion there. discretion nair extendy tear, stimulus tax cuts, just over $425 billion and barack obama had his own stimulus package, just over $700 billion. let's look at the two grand totals here. president bush, a grand total of over $5 billion, president obama about $1.5 trillion. what this says is, yes, both presidents spent a lot of money over a long period of time but this crisis has been years in the making. >> that's one of the criticisms that many on washington have been receiving. we saw this coming. >> now it's time for a spot of weather and it's not looking like a great weekend for us in asia. in fact, if winds were howling around our building. i believe it has a lot do with the tropical storm system that's passing by here

in afghanistan, that's not going to coerce me into voting for it. on the other hand, i do think that some of the few remaining serious republicans understand that they will get blamed for this. so i think there is some pressure to do that. one other point i want to mention, rachel, which deeply angers me, these are people, the tea party people, who came to be the constitutionalists, they are in the process of launching the most fundamental assault on the american constitution, fundamental principle we have ever seen, and that was majority rule. the great breakthrough in the 18th century was self governance. and if you read the constitution, the assumption is majority rule in congress. it's majority rule in the states. in no part of the u.s. constitution are you required to get more than a simple majority of both houses to do anything. there's a 2/3 required for treaty only in the senate. that was special with foreign powers. there's a 2/3 requirement to amend the constitution or to impeach someone. but for legislation everywhere in the constitution all you need is a majority, and these pe

to afghanistan, and that would turn a corner. >> or something with a base in their district. that does not work with this tea party caucus. that according to jeff blake, republican, was saying last night. that is refreshing in a lot of regards. this is the reform that a lot of people want. but the question is, has it gone too far. does it go beyond the limits of what is reasonable and what is gettable. and are they going to, you know, give up the goods trying to get the perfect here because they do have the offer of cuts, the trillion -- up to a trillion dollars in the boehner bill and more that they gave up in the earlier compromise that was rejected last week. and, you know, they could have gotten up to $4 trillion. now it will be a lot less. they could get $4 trillion just by giving up the bush tax cuts. there are a lot of options here, but they're not willing to concede -- that group is not willing to concede any kind of revenue changes and that has been one of the sticking points. the other sticking point is they just want more from the spending side than even conservatives think is possib
